Designed and created a mycelium-inspired installation mounted on Mini Ride cars at Dutch Design Week 2022.

Project Overview

As part of my work with DesignLab at the University of Twente, I participated in creating an installation for Dutch Design Week (DDW) 2022, one of the largest anual design events in the Netherlands, held in Eindhoven. The goal was to design an engaging piece that would be displayed on top of Mini Rides used to promote the event and transport visitors around Eindhoven. Our concept, inspired by mycelium networks, symbolized the importance of knowledge-sharing among stakeholders for societal growth.

My Contributions

  • Concept Development: Collaborated with a team of seven in brainstorming sessions to develop the concept of a colorful mushroom installation connected by strands, representing the mycelium’s interconnected roots.
  • Visual Direction: Led the design direction, selecting the color palette and materials for the installation.
  • Hands-On Creation: Contributed to the crafting process, including building the fiberglass structure, painting the mushrooms, and assembling the strands.

Impact

  • Successfully showcased the installation at DDW 2022, engaging visitors and sparking conversations.
  • Gained experience in teamwork, large-scale installation design, and the creative process from concept to execution. Plus, it was a super fun project!
